We are advised by Messrs. Shewan, Tomes and Company

that our coal in Canton has been released by authority of the Viceroy but so far we have no notification that the coal has been restored to the custody of our Canton Agents but have little doubt this will be done.

We beg to enclose copies of letters received by us

from Messrs. Shewan, Tomes and Company.

We take this early opportunity of tendering to His Excellency the Governor and to yourself our hearty thanks for all your efforts on our behalf which have happily terminated in the restoration of our property.

We have addressed ourselves directly to His Britan- -nic Majesty's Consul-General in Canton thanking him for all he has done

for us in this troublesome matter.
